Phill Wood
First thing’s first, it’s Phill with two L’s. Phill “Phree” is a multidisciplinary visual and movement artist originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, currently based in Chicago, Illinois. He is entering his fifth year as a company member and his second year as Rehearsal Director and Educational Outreach Coordinator with Chicago Dance Crash.
Phill has collaborated with a range of respected institutions and platforms, including Lyric Opera of Chicago, Lollapalooza, and Marriott Theatre, in addition to numerous local artists and creative collectives. Grounded in a commitment to visibility and community engagement, he was awarded the 2024 Individual Lab Artist Grant from Chicago Dancemakers Forum.
Primarily self trained, Phill’s movement practice is rooted in Breaking, Hip Hop, and House, with additional training and performance experience in Modern, Tricking, and Contemporary dance. He is deeply dedicated to sharing creativity as a tool for artistic freedom, connection, and social change, using his work to inspire curiosity, empowerment, and collective growth.
