Gotham City: Tribune
That’s in your face literally–the arena seating at the DCA Storefront Theater turns the stage into something of a boxing ring. Viewers sit on all four sides, each containing only two rows of seating, so there’s both the intimacy that David Cromer used so well in his “Our Town” and a heightened sense of the danger of the athletics. One slip, and a dancer might wind up in your lap–or worse.
But that’s part of what makes “Gotham City” so enjoyable, and I trust these folks know what they’re doing in terms of safety. Certainly Friday’s premiere came off without a hitch, and “Gotham City” as a result is the Crash’s most ambitious program and a new high in its innovative blend of concert dance and street vernacular.
