How did you spend Chicago Dance Crash Day?

Whereas, Chicago Dance Crash was formed in 2002 by Mark Hackman, Marissa Moritz, and Charlie Cutler and debuted their first performance in September 2022 at the Mary-Arrchie Theatre; and

Whereas, today, under the artistic direction of Jessica Deahr, the Company has produced 41 original productions and featured in hundreds of guest performances with a unique and vibrant fusion of concert and hip hop techniques; and

Whereas, Chicago Dance Crash has performed at many landmarks around the City including performing commissioned works at Navy Pier, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Taste of Chicago, the Chicago Cultural Center, Millennium park, specially-commissioned moving CTA trains, and on floating platforms in the Humboldt Park Lagoon; in addition to performing in Chicago, the Company also plays around the country and across the world; and

Whereas, in addition to performances, Chicago Dance Crash established an outreach program that has taught more than 100,000 students the history of funk, tutting, popping, and locking; performed over 600 educational shows for schools; donated their serves to benefit events, raised funds for local causes, and serves as dance ambassadors representing Chicago’s vibrant art and culture; and

Whereas, Chicago Dance Crash has been recognized and honored by The Black Theatre Alliance Awards, Dance Magazine, the National Endowment for the Arts, and more; and

Whereas, this year marks the 20 Anniversary of Chicago Dance Crash and will be celebrated during Chicago’s Year of Dance with new and innovative performances that will entertain, inspire, and uplift for generations to come:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, LORI E. LIGHTFOOT, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO, do hereby proclaim May 15, 2022 to be CHICAGO DANCE CRASH DAY IN CHICAGO in recognition of 20 years of inspiring, entertaining, and empowering dancers.
