The Haïtian American Museum

Event Details

Our very own Porscha Spells will premiere a brand new work inspired by Haitian culture. “It’s an honor to present work in Chicago’s only Haitian museum,” says Ms. Spells, “a place where many Haitian artists can find sanctuary. I hope that the artwork we present will serve as a reminder of the struggle and sacrifice that the Haitian people have endured and offer a positive perspective of their rich culture.”

Three Chicago museums partner with three Chicago choreographers for an innovative new series that showcases the city’s diverse cultural heritage. Moving Dialogs: Culture in Motion is a collaboration that brings together cultural heritage museums and choreographers to create new dance works inspired by museum collections.

Moving Dialogs, which kicks off in April during Chicago Dance Month, is presented by See Chicago Dance and the Chicago Cultural Alliance.

Each event, which is FREE and open to the public, will include an interactive presentation of the dance along with the cultural heritage objects that inspired the piece, followed by a conversation with the artists and curator, moderated by Zachary Whittenburg, communications director, Arts Alliance Illinois, and a reception with light refreshments.
