About the Teaching Artist!

James Morgan, a multifaceted martial artist and educator, embarked on his journey in the dynamic world of Capoeira in 1996 with Gingarte Capoeira. His academic pursuits led him to Fisk University in Nashville, TN, where he graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a discipline that has greatly enriched his teaching methods and understanding of human behavior. Over the past 25 years, James has dedicated himself to mastering various martial arts, including Wushu, Ninjitsu, Escrima, and Western Boxing, in addition to Capoeira. His diverse training reflects a commitment to both the physical and philosophical aspects of martial arts. His work extends beyond traditional teaching, as he has instructed numerous after-school programs through prestigious organizations like Afterschool Matters, Gallery 37, Columbia College, Old Town School of Folk, Roosevelt University, University of Chicago, and the Rebuild Foundation (Southside). He currently enriches the lives of students at Village Leadership Academy and Dulles Elementary as an after-school provider. James offers an introductory Capoeira class at Healthy Hood in Pilsen, sharing his love and knowledge of the art with a broader community.

What will you learn in class?
