Event Details
Chicago Dance Crash is currently in a one-week creative residency with choreographer Elijah Motley, developing new work for our upcoming July repertory performance.
Motley is a choreographer, dancer, and educator whose work bridges hip hop theater and immersive performance, blending breaking, house, funk styles, and contemporary forms into layered, narrative-driven experiences. A former Chicago Dance Crash company member, his creative voice is both deeply connected to the company’s history and shaped by a national and international choreographic presence, with work presented across the U.S. and abroad. He currently serves as a visiting professor at Elon University and continues to create, teach, and perform across a wide range of communities and institutions.
During this residency, Motley is collaborating with Crash artists to generate new material that reflects the company’s commitment to physically rigorous, story-driven work. The process emphasizes exploration, ensemble collaboration, and the integration of multiple movement languages, culminating in a new piece to be featured in our July repertory program.
