Residency w/ Cameron McKinney

Event Details

Chicago Dance Crash is in a one-week creative residency with choreographer Cameron McKinney, Artistic Director of Kizuna Dance, developing new work for our upcoming July repertory performance.

McKinney is a choreographer, educator, and cultural collaborator whose work centers on building connections between American and Japanese dance communities. With more than 19 years of Japanese language study, he founded Kizuna Dance to explore cross-cultural exchange through movement, creating work that integrates contemporary dance with global perspectives and collaborative process. His career includes recognition as a U.S.-Japan Friendship Commission Creative Artist Fellow, as well as fellowships with The School at Jacob’s Pillow, Princeton University, and the Alvin Ailey Foundation. His work has been presented nationally and internationally, including performances and collaborations across Europe, Mexico, and Japan.

Through this residency, McKinney is working closely with Crash artists to generate new material rooted in ensemble collaboration, cultural dialogue, and physical storytelling. The process will culminate in a preview showing of the work on May 15 at Hairpin Arts Center, offering an early look at the piece in development.

The completed work will premiere as part of Chicago Dance Crash’s summer repertory performance on July 24 and 25 at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts.
