Laura Elizabeth Maceika 1987-2009

With heavy hearts, Chicago Dance Crash is saddened to lose the closest of friends and a cherished soul with the passing of company member Laura Maceika, who died this past weekend at the young age of 21. Described by Artistic Director Kyle Vincent Terry as a “poetic mover” and “the bird in flight,” the native of Woodstock, IL left high school at 16 to work toward a professional dance career, training at Milwaukee Ballet, the Joel Hall Dance Center, and at the Performing Arts of Spring Grove under Alyce Keaggy Brinkmann, where she met Crash Senior Company Member Lyndsey Rhoads.

Brian Hare speaks his mind for once

Recently, Chicago Dance Crash producer Mark Hackman sat down with company dancer Brian Hare over some biscuits and gravy and discussed his role in the Movement/Gentlemen promotional materials and why it took so long for Crash to finally put Brian on a poster.

MARK: So Brian, is there any significance to this poster for you personally?

NEW KTF CHAMPION!!! INTRODUCING.... TORSION!

The crowd couldn't get much rowdier as KTF 14 (March 27th, 2009) saw a new champion crowned in Breakdance Chicago representative... Torsion!

Host Mattrick Swayze and his lovely assistant, Mrs. Russo, hosted a soldout house of competition-hungry fans in an event that could only be described as "one for the books".

Torsion survived a grueling final round against KTF veteran Laura Maceika in addition to surviving possibly the best group of participants we've ever had to date.
